Coaching Team
We have over 30 coaches in our Juniors section, including many current and past senior international players, and each team has a dedicated coach throughout the season.
All our coaches have completed the Code of Ethics Course for working with Children and Loreto facilitate each Junior coach to complete their Hockey Ireland Level 1 coaching course.
This will ensure that all our Junior members benefit from excellent coaching and player development in line with Hockey Ireland’s Hooked for Life model.
In addition Loreto, works very closely with Hockey Ireland to ensure that best practice is followed in children’s sport.
Children’s Officer and Designated Person
Suzanne Graham is our appointed children’s officer and Clare O’Hanlon is the designated person, and is responsible for reporting any concern about the protection of children to the statutory authorities.

If your daughter has any allergies or medical conditions (that you have not already advised us of this year) please let us know by email, in advance of the first coaching session.

Parent Involvement
We are very keen to involve parents in our Junior Club, and would be delighted to hear from any parents from Senior Infants to 6th class interested in being a Class Coordinator, or from 6th Class upwards who would like to come on board as a Team Manager for the season.
No past hockey experience necessary.
Selection
Our Policy
Loreto Hockey Club has a policy of mixed ability teams up to and including 5th class teams; the Club does not select based on ability at this level. Players participate in various blitzes throughout the season.
As the players reach secondary school and the standard of hockey increases training continues to be in mixed ability groups but teams for matches are selected on merit. Each player will be on a team and will get an equal number of games playing with those of similar ability.
There are a number of factors taken into consideration in team selection including ability, progression, player position, attitude, and effort and attendance at training and matches.
Teams are always open to change throughout the season as we acknowledge that players progress at different rates and we ask parents to respect the coach’s opinion. Please note that players asked to play for higher teams must be released by their own team.
