Pegasus 2 Loreto 1, IHL 21/11/09


After a wet and blustery day in Belfast the weater cleared for the Loreto and Pegasus match to go ahead, at 5:30. The first quarter had both teams getting their share of the play and both teams put in a lot of hard work becasue the play was end to end, Lizzie Colvin being the Loreto play maker and . Loreto were unlucky not to make more of their oportunity when Pegasus goal keeper had to make a save from a long ariel. Pegasus then won a penalty corner from a long winding run from Suzanne Beaney, but the shot was saved well by the Loreto keeper.

First quarter 0-0

Loreto got off to a great start in the second quarter and after a great passing move between the midfield and forwards created a penalty corner when it hit a Pegasus foot. The corner was broken down and cleared by Nadine Graham. The theme of end to end play continued and Pegasus forwads made several runs but couldn’t make the most of their chances on goal and failed to make the Loreto keeper make many saves.

Second quarter and half time 0-0

As this closely contested match started the second half it was all Pegasus for the first 5 minutes and Pegasus won a penalty corner from a Suzanne Beaey run. A strike from Arlene Boyles made it 1-0 to Pegasus. Not to be outdone Loreto applied pressure and won a free hit jut inside the Pegasus 23. Nikki Symmons took a quick free and dribbled the ball into the pegasus circle and scored the equaliser. 1-1. This brilliant match continued and Pegasus defender Nadine Graham ran with the ball the length of the pitch and won a penalty corner, corner broke down by hitting a Loreto foot, and another corner was won. This time a Michelle Harvey drag flick found the back of the net.

The fourth quarter saw Pegasus hang on to their lead as Loreto pushed the equlaiser. Pegasus had Kerry Harvey sin-binned for 5 minutes and Loreto made the most of the 10 men situation for Pegasus. Great play by Nikki Symmons and Lizzie Colvin in the midfield but unfortunaltely great Pegasus defending kept the score 2-0. A brilliant, closely contested match, the result could ahve gone to either team.
