Fillies, News → Fillies Report, Dec 20th 2009
While most of you were tucked up in a cosy bed on Sunday morning, 20th December 2009, four of our international players braved freezing temperatures and gave up their free time to meet our under 10s and under 12s. Cathy McKean, Louisa Healy, Nikki Symmons and Nicci Daly gave tips and advice to our eager and excited young players.
Sally Ann Fanagan, Irish Team Manager and Loreto Hockey Club member had previously organised for each member of the Irish squad to sign an Irish jersey to be raffled on the day. The raffle for the jersey was won by Roisin McKinney. Roisin, who is nine year old, plays in our under 10 group and is in third class in Loreto Primary School. Roisin was delighted to have won the prize and is going to frame the jersey.
Louisa Healy, Irish goal keeper then realized she was wearing a spare Irish jersey and, literally, whipped the shirt off her back to raffle off. The four internationals signed this one too. This jersey was won by Eleanor Keane, one of our under 12 stars. Eleanor is ten years old and is in 5th class in Loreto Primary School.
Our young players were so excited and honoured to meet the girls that they wouldn’t let them go without signing sticks, bags, shirts and goodness knows what else. The kids then enjoyed a party to celebrate Christmas. A great morning was had by all.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Cathy, Louise, Nikki and Nicci for their help and generosity.
