News → Loreto Hockey Club Summer Camps 2013
With our wonderful clubhouse and pitch facilities in Beaufort, it was decided that during July and August the club would run week long “Hockey & Fun” Summer Camps. These camps were aimed at children (all girls) between 5 – 12 years of age. From the feedback received from all the girls who attended plus parents, it is very clear that the camps were excellently run and were a real “fun” experience for the children. It was also a real bonus that these two camps were held in glorious sunshine all week.
Great credit and thanks must go to all the Loreto Coaches involved i.e. Campo, Hannah, McGirr, Ciara Vincent, Ciara Mac, John Elliott and Club Captain Roisin. Also, many thanks to the Irish International Hockey Players (Symmo, Jess McGirr and Nikki Evans) who very kindly agreed to drop into these summer camps to do a “Meet & Great” with the children and to autograph everything from sticks, stick bags, shin guards, shirts, and even runners!!!
We hear Symmo displayed some additional skills when she decided to go for a “bounce” with the kids on the Bouncy Castle.
Apart from developing their hockey skills, the camps also included fun activities such as Bouncy Castles, Team Quiz’s, Treasure Hunts, Dodge Ball competitions, Bar-B-Que (Thanks to Head Chef Wendy) etc, but undoubtedly one of the highlights of the week was the “no holds barred” water fight on the last day. The children arrived enthusiastically that morning with variety of large water pistols, some even had massive Rambo style Super-Soakers!!!
Thinking this would be just a water fight between the children, the Loreto coaches all got a bit of a surprise when Bronnie told the children they had the Hockey Club’s “FULL PERMISSION TO ABSOLUTLY SOAK ALL THE COACHES”. Upon hearing this news, the children took off in search of their coaches, – who were all absolutely soaked from head to toe!!!! –
Given the success of these Summer Camps, the Club intend to run another “Hockey & Fun” Camp over the Halloween school break (Tuesday 29th October – Thursday 31st October from 9am – 1.30pm). If you are interested in getting involved as a coach in our Halloween Camp, please contact Bronnie
