News → Chris Pelow Fund
Hi everyone,
As some of you may know Chris Pelow, 24, from Corinthians underwent surgery on Wednesday in Australia to amputate one of his lower legs in order to prevent the further spread of a synovial sarcoma, a very aggressive tumour that developed on his foot.
Chris went to Wesley college, played his hockey in Corinthians and was on many underage Leinster and Irish teams. The tumour was diagnosed just a week earlier as Chris who had gone to Australia for a year sought advice on a sore foot with only one treatment available. His parents, Ronan and Suzanne flew out to Australia to be with him during this very difficult time.
Following enquiries as to how best his home club in Dublin, Corinthians, could support Chris and his family, they have established the Friends of Chris Pelow Fund as a way for the very many people who know Chris and his family to show their support.
The Leinster Hockey Association has agreed to allow clubs which wish to help out, to take up a collection at all home games on the last day of the season,Saturday, March 31. There is also a PayPal facility on their Corinthians website www.chc.ie for those further afield who want to make a contribution.
Every penny raised will go to the Pelow family to help them defray those costs like travel and accommodation which insurance does not cover and to help Chris with his rehabilitation. There will be a collection box up in the clubhouse at training tonight and also on Saturday for all home games. Corinthians are a neighbouring club of ours and I really think we should do out best to support them and Chris at the difficult time.
If anyway isn’t training tonight and can’t make it to Loreto on Saturday you can make a donation online through Paypal or contact me and I will arrange to collect the money from you.
Thanks,
Nikki Keegan
